Eng. Hazem El-Ashmouny, Governor of Al Sharkia, confirmed that the state is making great efforts to control markets by intensifying inspection and control campaigns on markets, shops and commercial activities to protect citizens' rights, control markets and take the necessary legal action against non-compliant parties. For his part, Mr. Abdel Karim Awad Allah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply in Sharkia, explained that the directorate continues to direct successive strikes in coordination with the Supply Investigations, the Health and Veterinary Medicine Directorate and the Consumer Protection Agency to control markets, confront smuggling and storing of goods for the purpose of reselling them on the black market, and arrest those who manipulate the prices of subsidized goods and those who trade in spoiled, expired goods. During last November, the Supply Directorate launched a number of surprise supply and control campaigns on markets and shops to tighten control over the movement of buying and selling within the governorate. These campaigns resulted in issuing (3699) reports, including (2413) reports against municipal and tourist bakeries violating the violations, including underweight and production of bread that does not conform to specifications and health requirements, and bakeries operating without a license from the competent authorities. (1286) reports were also issued during control campaigns on commercial activities in the markets for not announcing prices, selling at prices higher than the official price, and managing the activity without a license. These campaigns resulted in the seizure of 87 tons of food consumer goods, all of which were of unknown origin and unfit for human consumption. In addition, 20 tons of non-food goods and 4,000 liters of petroleum products of unknown origin were seized and confiscated, and legal measures were taken against the violators.
