Title:Governor of Al Sharkia participates in two working sessions on the urban green revolution and the skills needed for a fair and sustainable transformation

Hazem El-Ashmouny, Governor ofAl Sharkia, participated in the activities of the second day of the Sixth International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC6), held under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) at the King Abdullah Cultural Center in the UNESCO-affiliated Jubail Educational City under the slogan "Learning Cities at the forefront of climate action" in the presence of prominent international figures, including governors of learning cities, lifelong learning and sustainability experts, representatives of the private sector, non-governmental organizations, civil society, researchers, teachers, United Nations entities and decision-makers from around the world. The second day's activities began with the participation of the Governor of Sharkia in a general session on the urban green revolution "the skills needed for a fair and sustainable transformation", during which the crucial role of developing green skills in driving urban sustainability and climate action was discussed by adopting a lifelong learning approach and studying the strategies necessary to provide both youth and adults with the skills necessary for a fair transition to greener economies and living environments. During the session, city leaders and international experts exchanged ideas on establishing comprehensive green skills programs, especially through public-private partnerships, and successful models from various sectors were presented, aiming to reach comprehensive and implementable solutions to build resilient and sustainable cities through empowered and skilled communities. The governor explained that the governorate joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2024, which confirms the pioneering role in the field of promoting climate action and supporting green projects, in the National Green Projects Initiative, which aims to meet environmental sustainability standards that lead to reducing carbon emissions and environmental pollution, which necessitated concerted efforts in the city to enhance lifelong learning initiatives for climate action by holding Several introductory seminars on the initiative of smart green projects in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - Ministry of Environment - National Council for Women). El-Ashmouny also participated in the activities of the closed session for the governors and mayors of cities participating in the Sixth International Conference on Learning Cities ICLC6, in the presence of Eng. Adel El-Naggar, Governor of Giza, Dr. Ayman El-Shehabi, Governor of Damietta, and Dr. Walaa Gazer, Director of the UNESCO Unit in the Governorate, during which the strategic role of women as leaders and agents of change in establishing green and climate-resistant educational cities was highlighted, as well as reviewing the disproportionate impact of the climate crisis on women and emphasizing the importance of enhancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education to enhance women's skills development for the green transformation. The session discussed the importance of enhancing non-formal education programs to help women earn income and overcome vulnerabilities by showcasing women's strong societal roles and leadership potential, with the aim of showing how women's empowerment can drive significant progress in local climate action and resilience, so that participants gain insight into effective strategies for integrating gender perspectives into urban climate policies and initiatives.
