Eng. Hazem El-Ashmouni, Governor of Al-Sharkia, held a meeting with Eng. Emad Mohamed Gengen, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Eng. Abdel Karim Awadallah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply, Brigadier General Ahmed El-Naggar, Director of Supply Investigations, Eng. Mohamed El-Shahawy, Director General of Agrarian Reform, Eng. Mohamed El-Dessouki, Director General of Agricultural Cooperation, Eng. Ashraf Taha Nasr, Director General of Agriculture, Mr. Hesham Abdel-Maksoud, Director of the National Emergency and Public Safety Network Control Center, Mr. Sayed El-Ghandour, Director General of Economic Affairs, and Ms. Rasha Shawky, Director of the Agricultural Coordination Department at the General Diwan, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Moati and Eng. Lobna Abdel Aziz, Deputy Governors, Major General Abdel Ghaffar El-Deeb, Secretary General of the Governorate, and Mr. Mohamed Nehme Kojak, Assistant Secretary General of the Governorate, to discuss the governorate's preparations to receive the wheat crop planting season for the 2024/2025 season in the various villages and centers of the governorate.
The governor began the meeting by stressing the need for full and good preparation for the wheat planting season and cooperation and coordination between the Directorate of Agriculture and all concerned parties to continue the governorate's leadership in the first place at the republic level in the production and supply of wheat crops, as well as improving the conditions of farmers and removing all problems and obstacles facing them to increase the productivity of agricultural crops and advance the process of agricultural development in the governorate.
During the meeting, Eng. Emad Mohamed Gengen, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, explained that the total targeted area of wheat cultivation for the new season is 400 thousand acres with the varieties Misr 3, Misr 4, Seds 15, Giza 95 and Sakha 171, noting that certified wheat seeds were provided by agricultural associations in conjunction with the beginning of the winter season cultivation on November 15, and the area planted with wheat so far has reached 48 thousand acres, and awareness seminars are being intensified for farmers and agricultural guides in all agricultural departments within the governorate to educate them on the need to use the latest scientific methods in agriculture, irrigation and good seeds to achieve the highest productivity per acre.
The Undersecretary of Agriculture Ministry added that the Directorate has completed the implementation of the activities of the national campaign to combat rodents to protect winter crops, as well as disinfecting all irrigation canals during the summer crop evacuation period, with the continuation of the implementation of the activities of the national campaign to promote the wheat crop, the Sumoud project, and the national campaign to rationalize water consumption in agriculture, as well as cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and civil society institutions in establishing guidance fields in the centers and cities of (Zagazig - Ibrahimia - Dirb Negm - Abu Hammad).
While Eng. Abdel Karim Awadallah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply, explained that the governorate, in parallel with planting the wheat crop, has finished preparing the silos, which number 13 with a storage capacity of 292 thousand tons, as well as the hangars and barns designated to receive the crop at harvest and store it in a safe and sound manner, as it is an important strategic crop for citizens.
During the meeting, the Governor of Sharkia decided to form committees from agriculture, supply and local units to limit the area planted with wheat in nature and determine the average productivity per acre and the quantity of wheat supplied for each acre separately, in order to determine the actual area planted with wheat and ensure the supply of the required quantities.
At the end of the meeting, the governor stressed the need to combine all efforts between the concerned parties to achieve the target of planting and supplying local wheat and exceeding 100%, so that the governorate remains at the forefront of the scene at the level of the governorates of the republic in supplying wheat, as it represents national and food security for citizens.
