Al-Sharqia Governorate Celebrates Its 145th National Day with 5,409 Development Projects at a Cost of EGP 70 Billion

Al-Sharkia Governorate celebrates its 145th National Day while continuing its long-standing journey of achievement, supported by a rich history and a present witnessing unprecedented development. This progress is reflected in thousands of national, service, and development projects aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life, enhancing public services, and strengthening comprehensive development across the governorate.

In line with Egypt’s comprehensive development drive in recent years and the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to build the New Republic and achieve a qualitative improvement in services and infrastructure, Al-Sharqia witnessed the implementation of 5,409 projects across various sectors from 2014 through August 2026, with a total cost of EGP 70 billion.

Al-Sharkia Governor Eng. Hazem El-Ashmouni affirmed that the achievements made over the past 12 years reflect the political leadership’s continued support for Egypt’s governorates. He noted that the projects covered various service and development sectors, aiming to achieve integrated and sustainable development, improve essential services, and provide a better environment for citizens in line with the objectives of the New Republic and Egypt’s Sustainable Development Vision.

The Roads and Bridges Sector ranked first in terms of the number of implemented projects, with 1,173 projects at a cost of EGP 13 billion. These projects contributed to upgrading the road network and major corridors, improving connectivity between the governorate’s cities, towns, and villages, facilitating citizens’ movement, supporting economic and investment activity, and opening new opportunities for development.

Pre-University Education: 880 educational infrastructure projects at a cost of EGP 5.8 billion, in addition to 19 higher education projects costing EGP 6.5 billion, supporting the development of modern educational facilities and preparing future generations.

Drinking Water and Sanitation: 417 projects with investments exceeding EGP 14.9 billion, including 146 drinking water and 271 sanitation projects, improving essential services and living conditions.

Housing: 55 projects at a cost of EGP 12.5 billion, supporting adequate housing and integrated urban development.

Healthcare: 151 projects at a cost of EGP 1.4 billion, aimed at upgrading healthcare facilities and improving medical services.

Other sectors also witnessed major achievements, including 605 environmental projects costing EGP 1.4 billion, 446 youth and sports projects costing EGP 380 million, 242 irrigation projects costing EGP 2.3 billion, and 344 local administration projects costing EGP 534 million.

Additional projects included 268 Awqaf projects costing EGP 220 million, 111 Al-Azhar projects costing EGP 347 million, 100 drainage projects costing EGP 776 million, and 36 veterinary projects costing EGP 64 million.

These projects reflect the governorate’s continued efforts to provide integrated services, improve quality of life, and achieve balanced and sustainable development across Sharqia.
