During his chairmanship of the Governorate Executive Council meeting, attended by council members, Engineer Hazem Al-Ashmouni, Governor of Sharqia, directed the heads of centers, cities, and districts to activate field monitoring committees to assess the extent to which shop owners are adhering to the designated closing times. He also instructed them to intensify awareness campaigns for business owners to comply with the closing times for shops, malls, and restaurants, as per the Prime Minister's decree. These times are from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with extended hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and holidays until midnight. Restaurants and cafes must close at 1:00 AM, while home delivery services continue 24 hours a day. Workshops must close at 7:00 PM, except for those located on roads and at gas stations.
The governor stressed the necessity of implementing the plan to reduce street lighting and billboard usage by 50%, and the decisive enforcement of the law against non-compliance. He also emphasized the continued efforts to rationalize energy consumption in government facilities, stating, "Everyone is prepared to bear the social and economic costs, stemming from a sense of national responsibility, to preserve the security and stability of the nation and the integrity of its territory amidst the exceptional circumstances facing the Arab region and the world."
Governor of Al-Sharqia affirmed that adherence to the rationalization plan contributes to the success of the state's efforts to rationalize energy consumption, while taking into account the nature and daily needs of citizens. He explained that the decision comes within the framework of temporary regulatory measures aimed at achieving a balance between the regularity of commercial activities and the continued provision of essential services without disruption.
