Engineer Hazem El-Ashmouni, Governor of Al-Sharkia, affirmed that the governorate is giving utmost attention to protect the waterways and developing fisheries resources. This is being achieved through the coordination between the Environmental Police, the Lakes Protection and Development Authority, the Environmental Affairs Agency and the Directorate of Agriculture and Irrigation, in order to activate mechanisms of regulating fishing, preventing illegal fishing using electricity and taking the firm legal action against the violators.

The Fisheries Unit also conducted a survey of fish farms within the governorate, in implementation of the Governorate Decree No. 3829 of 2024. The committee began its work approximately three months ago, and the result was 20,913 feddans, 17 kirats and 8 shares , with a total of 1,025 farms and 18 hatcheries.

Inspections are being conducted on waterways within the governorate to detect any violations related to fishing using electricity and to take the necessary legal procedures against the violators by issuing violation reports.
