News Date:November 13,2025

Engineer Hazem El-Ashmouni, Governor of Al-Sharkia, met with Dr. Hamed El-Aqnas, Head of General Authority for Veterinary Services, in order to strengthen cooperation and discuss several vital issues related to the veterinary sector in the governorate, most notably the vaccination of livestock against foot-and-mouth disease and Rift Valley fever to preserve animal resources and increase their productivity.

This meeting took place in presence of Mr. Mohamed Kajak, Assistant Secretary-General of the Governorate and Dr. Mohamed Bashar, Undersecretary of the Ministry and Director of Al-Sharkia Veterinary Directorate.

During the meeting, the ongoing efforts within the third national campaign to vaccinate livestock against foot-and-mouth disease and Rift Valley fever were reviewed. This campaign, implemented by the Veterinary Directorate in coordination with relevant agencies, aims to vaccinate 1.2 million head of cattle, buffalo and sheep. The goal is to increase the coverage in villages and hamlets, reaching small-scale farmers and encouraging them to vaccinate their livestock against these epidemic diseases that threaten animal production.

At the end of the meeting, the Governor of Al-Sharkia emphasized the importance of unifying efforts to achieve the objectives of the national vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease and Rift Valley fever. He also stressed the need to raise awareness among farmers and traders about the importance of regular vaccination to protect livestock. He noted that the field campaigns have significantly contributed in raising the veterinary awareness among the citizens and improving their response to the national vaccination programs.
