Title:Regional Authority for the Promotion of Tourism in Al Sharkia organizes the “Al Sharkia Day” Al-Moez Street in Cairo

Prof. Dr. Mamdouh Ghorab, Al Sharkia Governor, confirmed that the organization of “Al Sharkia Day” activities by the Regional Authority for the Promotion of Tourism in Al Sharkia this year on Al-Moez Street, and last year at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, is an effective promotion of Al Sharkia tourism product, which is characterized by its rural and Bedouin nature, both internally and externally, pointing out that this event allows visitors from inside and outside Egypt to experience Al Sharkia human experience in both its Bedouin and rural aspects. In a related context, the governor appointed Eng. Lubna Abdel Aziz, Deputy Governor, to follow up on the progress of the “Al Sharkia Day” event for the second year in a row, which was organized at Prince Mamai’s seat in the Qadi’s House Square on Al-Muizz Street in Cairo, in cooperation with the Supreme Council of Antiquities and under Sponsored by Al Sharkia Governorate, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and the General Authority for the Promotion of Tourism, and the distribution of certificates of appreciation to all participants in the event. For her part, the Deputy Governor explained that Al Sharkia Day event aims to stimulate local tourism, raise tourism and archaeological awareness, and introduce what Al Sharkia Governorate is famous for in terms of tourism resources and diversity in traditional folk arts, “Folk Arts Band, Municipal Mizmar Band, creative crafts, and the diversity of tourism components.” Dr. Rasha Hassan Raafat, Director of the Regional Authority for the Promotion of Tourism in Al Sharkia, also indicated that the “Al Sharkia Day” event on Al-Muizz Street was attended by 47 visual artists, in addition to the participation of (25) craftsmen from producers of (papyrus, ceramics and pottery, handmade carpets, wooden dolls, resin, etc.- Crochet- leather products- accessories- beadwork - Bedouin and rural clothing), and it also includes creative products produced by the Able to Difference initiative of the Youth and Sports Directorate in the governorate. It is worth noting that the “Al Sharkia Day” event included a group of different workshops that celebrate the tangible heritage of Al Sharkia, such as: • A live interactive workshop on the craft of papyrus, and how to make it by hand as it was made in ancient Egypt. • A live workshop on making and designing wooden dolls that express the governorate’s heritage, including characters and costumes. • A live workshop on making handloom kilims. • In addition to an exhibition of fine arts that includes paintings from the artistic workshop, which express the most important landmarks, tourist places and personalities in the governorate that represent the most important events of the past and present in Al Sharkia Province, and the most prominent personalities, which belongs to the governorate, and a photographic exhibition that conveys to us scenes from the neighborhoods, customs, and aspects of the intangible heritage of Al Sharkia Governorate. • In addition, the artists participating in the event draw portraits of visitors throughout the day. • Videos of the most important events, personalities, attractions and products for which the governorate is famous with. • The event concluded with performances of the distinctive traditional arts in the governorate (Folk Arts Band - Municipal Mizmar Band) in Beit Al-Qadi Square on Al-Mu'izz Street, in the middle of a crowd, where visitors expressed their happiness at watching the folk arts and the municipal mizmar, which abounds in the heritage of Al Sharkia.
